METAIRIE, La. It's only Day 1 and New Orleans' Lance Moore was doing what, well, only the quick and diminutive receiver knows what to do make acrobatic catches that defy logic.
As the first team offense was ending its session again the starting defense, quarterback Drew Brees decided it was time to take a shot down the field.
Lance Moore streaked down the middle of the field, safety Malcolm Jenkins with him step-for-step.
Brees launched a pass, maybe inches underthrown, and Jenkins leapt up to catch the ball falling while twisting backwards.
But milliseconds after both Moore, who was behind the safety, and Jenkins fell to the turf inside the indoor practice facility, the receiver held up the ball, signifying a head-scratchingly impressive first down.
'Yeah, he made a great play,' Brees said. 'We can't help ourselves. We get out here on day one, and especially after you have been some walk-throughs, you are going to want to test them. I told those guys that we were going to throw some balls down that field that maybe we shouldn't today, but let's go make some plays. Obviously, Lance made that play. That was a phenomenal catch.'
Said tight end Jimmy Graham on the catch, 'That's Lance Romance. That's what he does on a day in, day out basis.'
