St. John Parish is one step closer to getting levee protection.

The river parish community was inundated with flood water from Lake Pontchartrain during last year's Hurricane Isaac.

According to a report, the Army Corps of Engineers has chosen a plan that includes a levee from the Bonnet Carre Spillway to Hope Canal to the Mississippi River, as well as non-structural risk reduction in St. James Parish.

This comes after months of study in the wake of Hurricane Isaac.

However, before this alternative can be confirmed as the alternative, the Corps must fully review and evaluate all comments received during a public comment period.

Congress must also authorize the money to build the so called West Shore, Lake Pontchartrain Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction Plan.
