BRAITHWAITE, La. - A chemical release has been reported at the Stolthaven Plant in Braithwaite, according to a spokesperson at the Department of Environmental Quality.
The chemical released is methyl acrylate.
According to DEQ, the release originated from a spill within the facility that started around 10:15 a.m. and was secured at 11:48 a.m.
A separate cleanup crew is on the way to the scene to assist.
At this time it is unclear whether there are environmental concerns, but DEQ does have a crew on the scene monitoring air quality.
There have been no evacuations at this time.
Stolthaven was also the site of a chemical leak during Hurricane Isaac, one year ago.
