TANGIPAHOA, La. -- A Tangipahoa Parish councilman convicted of malfeasance in office will be sentenced Wednesday.
Earlier this year a grand jury found Michael Petitto guilty of authoring a resolution giving federal tax credits to a developer that was building a new subdivision in Amite.
What Petitto didn't tell his fellow council members was that his brother Salvadore owned the exclusive rights to buy the property.
Seven months after that council vote, Salvadore Petitto bought the 18-acres and then immediately sold it, making a $200,000 profit.
Michael Petitto faces a maximum sentence of five years in jail.
