NEW ORLEANS - A Carnival cruise scheduled to depart from New Orleans on Sunday was re-routed to Mobile, Alabama after a sunken tugboat shut the Mississippi River down.
The Carnival Conquest arrived in Mobile at 2:30 p.m. Sunday instead of New Orleans. It will depart Monday at 4 p.m.
The seven-day cruise was cut to six days. Guests received a prorated, one-day refund on their fare.
A bus stationed at the Julia Street terminal was offered to guests for the two and half hour drive to Mobile, officials said. Carnival said passengers should not drive themselves to Mobile, because the ship will return to New Orleans on July 14. The river was reopened on Sunday night.
Returning guests who missed their flight homes Sunday were allowed to remain on board in Mobile until Monday morning.
TheCarnival Elation was not affected by the river closure and is set to depart from New Orleans at 7 p.m. Monday.
