Louisiana State Police Troop B responded to a fatal accident in St. Bernard Parish around 8:40 p.m. Saturday, in which a pedestrian was killed.

The pedestrian has been identified at 22-year-old Candas Richard from St. Bernard.

According to State Police a 1999 Nissan Maxima, driven by Anna Berthelotte, was driving west on LA 46, near Colonial Blvd. at the same time Richard, who was dressed in dark clothing, was walking on the highway in the middle of the westbound lane.

After the Maxima hit Richard, the driver, Berthelotte, pulled over her car and began flagging traffic around Richard, who was still lying in the roadway.

A 1997 Mac dump truck, driven by Robert Starks then struck Richard again in the westbound lane.

Impairment and speed are not considered factors in this accident but blood samples were taken from both drivers and will be processed by State Police's Crime Lab.
