NEWORLEANS-- One ran as a longtime City Council member with the support of much of the city's political establishment while the other pushed a grass-roots campaign for change, but when the votes were counted in the Feb. 1 primary for the council's District C seat, Jackie Clarkson and Nadine Ramsey were separated by only 24 votes.

Clarkson, currently serving at-large and as council president, finished with the extra two dozen votes over Ramsey, a former Civil District Court judge, but both say they expected to meet again in the March 15 runoff. Each garnered 45 percent of the vote.
