The Houston Texans have this year's top overall draft pick and - like all bottom dwellers - they are hoping the top overall pick will eventually bring them Super Bowl rewards.

The truth of the matter is that top picks in the last 24 years have rarely led to the ultimate prize.

Only 7 of the top overall players drafted since 1990 have won a Super Bowl and two of them - Drew Bledsoe and David Carr - did so as bench warmers for Tom Brady and Eli Manning.

Now, I don't think anyone is giving up on Cam Newton or Andrew Luck, especially since John Elway didn't win a Super Bowl until he was nearly 40, but, the idea that a top overall pick will lead you to success, certainly isn't the case.
