THERIOT, La. -- A 31-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter have died after she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a canal.
The crash happened just before 5 p.m. on Hwy. 315, about three miles south of the Falgout Canal Road.
According to Louisiana State Police, Ashley Worrell, 31, was driving a 2008 Nissan Titan north on Hwy. 315 when she lost control of her vehicle and entered a canal. The vehicle overturned and was submerged under water.
Worrell was pronounced dead on the scene, but her daughter, Delaney Lirette, died at the hospital.
There was a child seat in the vehicle, but it's not clear if the victims were restrained at the time of the crash.
The results of toxicology tests are pending. The crash is under investigation.
