HAMMOND, La. -- A traffic stop by State Police Sunday morning on Interstate 12 ended with the arrest of a Mississippi man and the seizure of 300 pounds of marijuana, according to State Police.

Around 9 a.m., Carlos Davis, 26, of Greenwood, Miss., was pulled over by the troopers on Interstate 12, near the junction with Interstate 55.

'Troopers became suspicious of Davis' behavior and subsequently requested a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office K-9 to respond to the traffic stop after Davis refused consent to search the vehicle,' said a statement from State Police. 'Following a positive alert by the TPSO K-9, Troopers' search revealed the presence of approximately 300 lbs. of marijuana in the back seat and rear cargo area of the vehicle.'

Davis was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Investigators estimate the street value of the seized narcotics to be approximately $250,000.
