KENNER, La. A Kenner pedestrian was severely injured when he was struck by a van while walking on the sidewalk Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of Bainbridge.

Police said the preliminary investigation showed that the van was moving southbound on Bainbridge when it drifted to the right shoulder and partially left the roadway, striking the 36-year-old resident.

The victim suffered several broken ribs, an avulsion to the right arm, facial fractures and a brain hemorrhage. He was taken to University Hospital where he was listed as critical.

Police said the van was not insured at the time of the crash and had several equipment violations including an expired license plate, a switched license plate registration sticker and a counterfeit vehicle inspection sticker.

The driver of the van was also taken to the hospital.

Charges are pending.
