ST. TAMMANY, La. - Around 2 a.m. Monday, firefighters arrived at a vacant home north of Covington to find it fully engulfed in flames, according to St. Tammany Fire District No. 12.
Firefighters got the call around 1:40 a.m. from a passerby who reported seeing flames while driving on Lee Road.
A rescue unit from the Covington Fire Department responded first to the home located near the intersection of River Road and Highway 437 and reported seeing the home ablaze.
Four fire engines, 14 personnel, one rescue unit and a 5,000-gallon water truck reponded seven minuted later from Fire District No. 12.
The fire was under control at 3:10 a.m., but firefighters were still on the site battling hotspots at 8 a.m.
The home was for sale and unoccupied.
The cause of the fire is unknown, said St. Tammany Fire District No. 12.
There are no reported injuries, according to fire officials.
