SLIDELL, La. -- A Slidell woman is in jail on Medicaid fraud charges after she allegedly used her deceased sister's name when checking into the hospital.
According to the Slidell Police Department, 26-year-old Diondre Jones was wearing a t-shirt that featured a memorial to her sister when she committed the alleged crime.
The incident happened Aug. 5 at Slidell Memorial Hospital.
Jones used her sister's date of birth and Social Security number to try to avoid paying medical bills, said Detective Daniel M. Seuzeneau, a spokesman for the Slidell Police Department.
After treating Jones in the hospital, the staff ran her information but found that the 'date of death precedes date of service.' Jones had already fled to the parking lot, but a Slidell police officer was able to stop her.
When questioned, Jones pointed to her shirt and said, 'They must have gotten the name from this shirt.' Seuzeneau said the name on the shirt -- Delores Jones -- was the same name she gave to the hospital staff.
Jones faces one count of Medicaid fraud. Police also booked her on outstanding attachment for failure to appear in court from a previous arrest.
