JEFFERSONPARISH, La. - A Jefferson Parish code enforcement inspector and employees of two local contracting companies were arrested and charged in a contractor fraud investigation, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is seeking a third man in connection with the case.
Alphonse Chauvin, 70, of Metairie, a code enforcement inspector with Jefferson Parish, was booked with malfeasance in office and second-degree injuring of public records, according to Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for Sheriff Newell Normand.
Fortunato released few details on the investigation, other than to say that Chauvin was booked after an ongoing contractor fraud investigation by JPSO Detective Todd Rivere.Chauvin was arrested at the Jefferson Parish Government Building in Elmwood on Friday.
Also booked on charges of filing or maintaining false public records were Michael Cenac, 57, of Kenner, an employee of Contemporary Engineering Services and Omar Oceguera, 44, of Metairie, employed by Triple OH Shoring, Inc.
A warrant has been issued for Randy Gaspard, 35, of Metairie, an employee of Cumberland Investment Group, LLC.He is wanted for theft and second-degree injuring of public records. Gaspard remains at large, Fortunato said.Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call police.
Sheriff's officials also ask anyone who believes theymay have fallen victim to contractor fraud, whether in this case or others, to contact the JPSO or the Louisiana Attorney General's Office.
