NEW ORLEANS -- The family of a 26-year-old woman who was shot and killed Tuesday night while sitting on a porch had recently expressed concern to them about the safety of her neighborhood in the 5th Police District.

The district has recorded the largest number of killings in the city, according to the WWL-TV murder map.

Her family says that Kaima Kennedy was shot to death as an innocent bystander when an argument broke out nearby.

Kennedy was sitting on the porch relaxing and chatting with a friend after a shift at work at the Winn-Dixie store on Carrollton Avenue, according to her family.

Kennedy had recently applied to Delgado and her family said her future was looking up. A vigil was planned for Thursday night.

Kennedy was shot multiple times. She was rushed to the hospital and died there about 45 minutes after the shooting.

Police haven't named a suspect or a motive.

If you know anything that can help investigators, call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
