Practice 2/18, Day 16, Training Camp Observations
Two players sat out the afternoon practice after going in the morning LB Scott Shanle and FB Heath Evans both rested. Meanwhile, WR Rod Harper was back full-go for the first time in more than a week.
P Thomas Morstead said he separated his left shoulder, but will be fine. During practice, he worked on range-of-motion movements.
Also sitting out FB Marcus Mailei, WR Adrian Arrington (sprained shoulder), TE Jimmy Graham (sprained right ankle), TE Tyler Lorenzen, DL Jimmy Wilkerson (left knee), LB Stanley Arnoux (sprained right ankle) and FS Usama Young.
Arnoux said he injured his ankle in the game Thursday night, but wouldn't put a timetable on his recovery time. Young wouldn't comment on his injury.
WR Rod Harper (left hip) was limited, but didn't work in pads while the team was in shells.
The PUP players S Darren Sharper (left knee), WR Robert Meachem (toe) and LB Clint Ingram (left knee) all continued to sit out practice.
LB Jonathan Casillas is officially the No. 1 WLB while LB Scott Shanle is officially the SLB now.
In the 'penny' defense, CB Patrick Robinson was working with the No. 1 unit. This particular defense has three cornerbacks and one safety.
In the three safety 'penny' defense, S Pierson Prioleau was working with the first-team.

First-and-10: QB Drew Brees was nearly picked off by S Roman Harper, who jumped in front of TE Tory Humphrey to break the pass up.
First-and-10: Brees scrambles to his left as everyone is covered, points to P Thomas for a block and runs out of bounds.
First-and-10: Brees throws to RB Reggie Bush, who couldn't handle the ball as he was turning around to get to it.

Other CB Reggie Jones sandwiched two great plays around a near miss. First, he intercepted QB Sean Canfield, who was aiming for WR Mark Bradley in double coverage.
Then he couldn't haul in WR Larry Beavers, who caught a screen pass left from Canfield and ran for 50 yards before CB Leigh Torrence tackled him, drawing cat calls and boos from his teammates.
Finally, a play later, Jones intercepted Canfield as he stepped in front of Beavers.

Third-and-4: Brees intended for WR Devery Henderson, but Henderson fell down
Other QB Patrick Ramsey made a perfectly weighted throw to WR Courtney Roby, who caught the pass in front of CB Danny Gorrer. Roby then outraced R Jones for a 60-yard touchdown.
On the final play, LB Anthony Waters forced a fumble by RB Chris Ivory. CB Patrick Robinson couldn't corral the ball and it rolled out of bounds.
