Week 2 Thoughts

That's what the Saints will face all season and late Sunday night and all day Monday, they crept up again with all the Jonathan Vilma NFL settlement talks leaks.

But what we'll get to see this week is how they react, how New Orleans overcomes if it overcomes the latest distraction.

In a way this isn't necessarily a bad thing. Certainly everyone involved wants this to be resolved somehow and soon. But the more that is thrown at the Saints early, the more they can get used to it and learn to work with and through it.

Today and tomorrow the Saints will practice with New England, a nice reprieve from beating on each other during training camp.

The lessons should come hard and fast.

There's no better team for the Saints to work with right now than the Patriots. New England is the only other team that has faced harsh penalties, though not nearly as devastating as the ones New Orleans was given.

When the Patriots were handed down then-unprecedented penalties after Spy Gate, the next season they went 18-0 and got the Super Bowl before losing.

The Saints are hoping for the same follow up campaign. They can continue their education this week.

Running back isn't a position the Saints have any problems with. But they still found another gem in Travaris Cadet.

I remember watching him during OTAs and minicamp and thinking he looked impressive. But with them playing in no pads and there being no tackling, it's hard to really tell.

But once training camp began, it appeared Cadet was as appeared good and underrated.

We saw Sunday night in the Hall of Fame game that he's going to be hard to get rid of.

New Orleans is deep at running back and there's just no room for Cadet. He may be hard to get through waivers after final cuts. Regardless, he appears to be a player who has made the most of preseason thus far.

Falling back to Earth
Receiver Joe Morgan was fighting for a roster spot heading into training camp.

And with Adrian Arrington out of Sunday's game with a knee injury, Morgan was perfectly situated to take advantage.

But he didn't. The botched punt is big for him. He's likely going to make the roster on special teams attributes and with Courtney Roby having a good camp and playing well against Arizona, there's less room for Morgan to wiggle.

Morgan still has time and four games to make amends. But there are only so many mistakes he has left before the coaches move on.
