METAIRIE, La. New Orleans Saints linebacker Curtis Lofton returned to practice Wednesday, his first time on the field since injuring his left ankle in the Aug. 17 preseason game against Jacksonville.

Lofton previously said he was ready to play on Sunday against the Washington Redskins in the season opener in spite of the high ankle sprain; Wednesday was the first on-field sign that it was a real possibility.

Meanwhile, receiver Marques Colston sat out the team portion of practice with a sore left foot injury.

Additionally, outside linebacker David Hawthorne (left knee) was limited. Receiver Adrian Arrington (right knee) was full. Both had preseason surgery to fix a torn meniscus in their respective knees.

The injury report deals specifically with the team period of practice.

Interim head coach Aaron Kromer said he does expect all to play on Sunday against the Washington Redskins.
