NEWORLEANS - It's good news for the New Orleans' economy - more tourists are coming to the Crescent City, according to a new report from the University of New Orleans.

Nearly 5 million visitors came to the city in the first six months of 2012, which is a two percent increase since 2011. There were 8.75 million total visitors in 2011.

Tourism officials are waiting to see if New Orleans will hit the 10 million mark by the end of the year.

The last time the city hosted 10 million tourists was in 2004.

Researchers blame Hurricane Katrina for the lower numbers since then.

The report was released at the same time the city plays host to the Louisiana Seafood Festival.

The festival features 20 musical acts and 19 restaurant booths. The free event is held at Woldenberg park from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday through Sunday. For more information, visit
