NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans police had a very busy Carnival season keeping people safe along the parade routes and in the French Quarter.

According to department officials, 47 people were arrested on gun charges this year compared to 32 in 2012. That's a 47 percent increase from last year.

Police made a total of 879 arrests during Mardi Gras. That's down from the 1,056 people last year.

Officials say 328 of those people were not physically arrested. They were issued summons instead.
