NEWORLEANS - A group of New Orleans-area residents and education groups traveled to the state capitol Tuesday to speak out about improvements and reforms in education.

The group will gathered in Mid-City before heading to Baton Rouge.

The trip coincides with the second annual New Orleans Public Education Day at the Capitol.

The event is organized by the Orleans Public Education Network (OPEN.)

Parents and those with deep interests in public education took part in advocating for reforms and spoke to state lawmakers who can affect change.

Prior to the event, parents went through training sessions in an effort to learn how to participate.

The group will also meet with the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education on Tuesday.
