NEWORLEANS-- Police arrested two men they believe were involved in the fatal shooting of a man in Algiers.
According to New Orleans police, officer apprehended 19-year-old Lionel Lee and 21-year-old Christopher Covington after they fatally shot a 24-year-old man in the 2900 block of Preston Place.
The men were arrested less than hour after the shooting, according to police.
The victim was found lying on the sidewalk, with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Detectives were on a surveillance in the area for illegal drug activity when they heard gunshots and saw a vehicle speed off, according to police.
After a short chase to the intersection of Herschel Street and Halsey Avenue, the men stopped the car and fled on foot. 'After a search of the area, officers were able to locate and apprehend Lionel Lee in the 2200 block of Cobblestone Lane and Christopher Covington at Wall Boulevard and Westbend Parkway,' NOPD said in statement.
Police seized several guns believed to have been tossed out the car's window by the men as they were being pursued, and detectives are in the process of identifying and locating a third suspect.
