TANGIPAHOAPARISH, La. - The Tangipahoa Parish Council took legal action against the state for closing three railroad crossings.

On Monday night, the council voted in favor of authorizing the council's attorney to file for a court order to block the closures.

The Louisiana Transportation Department shut down the crossings on Reverend J. White Road in the Independence-area, Capace Road in the Independence-area and Babb Road in the Village of Tangipahoa.

The state said the closures are aimed at increasing driver safety.
