NEW ORLEANS -- With time running out to pass a spending bill to avoid a partial government shutdown on Tuesday, House and Senate lawmakers were not in session Sunday.

Louisiana's delegation in the House is split down party lines.

Rep. Steve Scalise, R-New Orleans, said it has come down to the wire because President Barack Obama has failed to negotiate with republicans.

'I think that there's still an agreement that can be reached,' Scalise said. 'There are a lot of different options that are still on the table. At some point the president is gonna have to sit down and start talking with the people in Washington and resolve this impasse.'

Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-New Orleans, sent us a statement saying, 'It is sad and disheartening to work with people who refuse to compromise or work together for the common good of our economy and all of our constituents.

'We were elected to the house of representatives to legislate, but instead, house leadership has demonstrated they are incapable of doing that.'
