The father of two toddlers who were left unattended during a house fire on March 15 was arrested Saturday after a lengthy search, police said.

Romell Welsh Sr., 20, turned himself in to Houma Police Saturday at 12:40 p.m. telling authorities that he 'wanted to do the right thing,' police said.

Welsh was charged with two counts of manslaughter and possession of marijuana. He is being held at the parish jail awaiting trial or bond.

Mother Vaneshia Valentine, 22, was arrested on March 26 and faces the same manslaughter and possession charges.
