VACHERIE, La. A man trying to retrieve his dog was struck and killed by a vehicle on LA 20 near LA 644 Friday morning.

According to the State Police, Gaspard Brazan, 62, had parked his car on the shoulder of the road to try to retrieve a dog in the highway.

At the same time, two large trucks were headed southbound on LA 20 when the one in front stopped to avoid hitting the dog. The second truck swerved to avoid hitting the first truck and went into the northbound lanes, striking a vehicle parked on the side and then Brazan.

He was pronounced dead on the scene.
