NEW ORLEANS - An 18-year-old New Orleans man has been arrested and another man is being sought in connection with the armed robbery of two women Tuesday night in Metairie.

Dequan Alonzo was booked on two counts of armed robbery.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, two women were talking in a parking lot in the 4400 block of Hearst Ave. in Metairie Tuesday night around midnight.

The women said that a four-door car with damage to the rear parked near them and that two men got out and walked by. A few minutes later the two men returned with their faces covered and, while armed with a gun, demanded the women surrender their valuables.

As the men fled, the women wrote down the license plate number and deputies said they traced it to Alonzo. Police said they went to his address and spoke to his parents who said he no longer lived at the home. Deputies said they were told the parents would call when he came to the house.

Thursday, deputies said the parents called and investigators questioned Alonzo about the incident. According to the sheriff's office, Alonzo first denied being at the scene and then said he was just 'a bystander,' before finally refusing to answer additional questions.

A second suspect, described as a black male between 5'7' and 5'8' tall, 170 pounds with short black hair, dark clothing and a red bandana, remains at large.

Anyone with information is asked to call the JPSO Robbery Section at 504 364 5376 or Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
