NEWORLEANS- The New Orleans Police Department has arrested three boys aged 12, 13 and 14, for an armed robbery near the intersection of Oak and Broadway streets Thursday night.
According to police, two victims were walking on Oak around 9:30 p.m. when a gunman wearing a skeleton mask jumped in front of them and demanded money. Once the victims gave up their money, the suspects fled.
Police canvassing the area said they spotted three young men walking near South Carrollton Avenue and Maple Street and that two of them fit the description of the suspects. Police said when they stopped the young men, one of the boys grabbed his waistband, which held a BB gun. Officers also found a skeleton mask on the suspect.
All three suspects were detained and two of them were identified as the robbers. The third suspect also was identified as someone who was leaving the scene of the crime.
All three juveniles were booked with armed robbery and transported to the NOPD's Juvenile Center.
'It's always incredibly disappointing and unfortunate when we see children this young committing crimes,' NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas said. 'In this case, I'm just grateful that our Second District officers were able to locate these kids as quickly as they did, and that no one- including these children-was hurt.'
