JEFFERSON, La. -- Detectives are canvassing the largest neighborhood in Jefferson Parish, asking neighbors if they have seen missing 6-year-old Ahlittia North and if they can search their homes.

'We're still hoping for that one clue, for that one tip from someone that can give us some info that would lead us in the direction of a suspect, of a vehicle, of a location,' said Col. John Fortunato of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Investigators are focusing on the Woodmere subdivision because they have exhausted their search of the immediate area near the apartment complex where North was last seen.

Her family is desperate for answers after her stepfather awoke Saturday morning to find Ahlittia had vanished overnight, along with a queen-sized blanket, a toothbrush, and toothpaste.

'It's a lot,' said North's stepfather, Albert Hill. 'Too much for me to take.'

Nearly 72 hours after North was last seen, detectives have searched by air, sifted through trash and combed nearby woods. They have poured through hours of video footage, scoured waterways and questioned all 15 of the registered sex offenders in the area.

They have turned up nothing.

Now, detectives want to talk to a person of interest, 20-year-old Matthew Flugence. He is wanted for the alleged sexual battery of an 11-year-old in the Harvey area back in late April or early May.

'He's wanted for a sex crime, and if something may have happened simply because this little girl happened to wander out of her home on her own accord, and may have been picked up by someone,' Fortunato said. 'There's many, many different theories, but once again, we're not ruling out the possibility of foul play.'

The 6-year-old's mother, father and stepfather have all passed a lie detector test, and with no sign of forced entry, detectives are still searching for a clue that could lead them to North.

If you have any information, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111. The reward has been increased to $4,000 for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of a suspect and $1,000 for North's safe return.
