The Saints have released quarterback Seneca Wallace after a disastrous third quarter in New Orleans' 28-20 preseason win over Oakland.

Wallace faced an uphill battle to earn the team's backup position ahead of Luke McCown after injuring his groin early in training camp.

He missed the latter part of the second week of camp and sat out the opener against Kansas City. He watched from the sideline as McCown went 18-for-28 for 216 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

When Wallace got his chance, he didn't shine.

Friday, against Oakland, the offense turned the ball over on three consecutive series, including an interception thrown by Wallace and a fumble by the quarterback that was returned for a touchdown. The offense gained just 24 yards in the four series he directed.

His final stats showed a meager 32 yards and the interception on 3 of 6 passing.
