PEARL RIVER, La. - The Louisiana Legislative Auditor's Office has launched an investigation into the Town of Pearl River.
The move comes after Eyewitness News aired a series of stories on questionable spending and operations in the town.
The agency says it received allegations regarding the town and investigators were sent there to look into the matter Monday.
'We plan to follow up on those allegations by examining the town's financial records, talking to town employees and other persons who may have relevant information. And if we find that there's any merit to the allegations, we will issue a written report of the completion of our work,' said Director of Investigative Audit Roger Harris.
Mayor James Lavigne could not be reached for comment on his cell phone, nor at City Hall, Monday afternoon.
