LORANGER, La. - Escaped work-release inmate Christopher Ricker is in custody, according to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards.

There was no immediate word on the detail of how Ricker, who escaped from the St. Tammany Parish work release program Thursday morning, was brought in to custody.

Law enforcement officials believe that after his escape, Ricker went to a Covington convenience store, kidnapped his ex-girlfriend before letting her go and then led officers on a chase that ended when he crashed his vehicle and managed to escape.

Dozens of law enforcement officials from several agencies both local, state and national participated in the hunt.

Following his escape, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain shut down the work release program.
