NEW ORLEANS -- Police have arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with a New Orleans East murder this weekend.

NOPD spokesman Officer Garry Flot said detectives believe Lawrence Jackson, 50, is behind the murder of a man Saturday at about 8:10 p.m. in the 5100 block of Bayou Court.

Police had received a report of a man bleeding in an apartment, and when they arrived on the scene, they saw the victim lying on the floor with blood on his body. Flot said there were signs of a struggle.

Police had named Jackson a person of interest Sunday and said he was not yet a suspect, but Monday they filed charges against him.

The identity of the victim hasn't been released, and the coroner hasn't released the official cause of death.

Jackson faces a second-degree murder charge.

If you know anything that can help investigators, call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
