KENNER, La. The man who held up traffic on the Bonnet Carre Spillway for hours Sunday evening has been charged with illegal carrying and discharge of a weapon and aggravated obstruction of a highway, State Police said Monday.

Vincent Hollins, 37, was booked into the St. Charles Parish Correctional Center. Investigators are still looking into why Hollins stopped on the Interstate 10 bridge, holding up traffic beginning around 6 p.m.

At 9:58, Hollins jumped over the side of the bridge and fired a shot. St. Charles Sheriff's Office Marine Division and Wildlife and Fisheries agents staged below the bridge picked Hollins, who suffered minor injuries, out of the water.

The interstate was re-opened shortly after eastbound with the westbound lanes opening up an hour later.
