METAIRIE, La. Police suspect driver impairment as a factor contributing to the death of a man in a car accident on Monday night.
Around 10:20 p.m., Julius Nelson Jr., 37, of Metairie was driving his 1996 Ford Explorer north on Airline Highway near Blair Drive when, for unknown reasons, he traveled off the road to the right, according to Troop B of the Louisiana State Police.
He then re-entered the north lanes and crossed into the south lanes. He overcorrected the SUV which caused it to roll over on to the roof.
Nelson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
The speed at which he was traveling also contributed to the fatal accident.
Toxicology results are pending an autopsy.
