METAIRIE, La. - The Jefferson Parish Council held a special hearing Friday about the ouster of six members of the Jefferson Parish Housing Authority.

They're accused of neglect of duty after a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) investigation pointed to mismanagement of public funds.

Jefferson Parish President John Young was grilled by the attorney for the housing authority members.

Young said he was required by HUD to investigate the conduct of the members, which led to the firings.

Former Housing Authority Director Barry Bordelon was fired and barred from further employment with the authority and was given a new position as a maintenance supervisor, Young said.
