JEFFERSON PARISH, La. -- A Marrero man was arrested for the murder of a New Orleans man on the West Bank Expressway in early July, according to Glen Boyd, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.

Alexis Shelby, 33, was arrested on one count of second-degree murder for fatally shooting Michael Gray, 47, of New Orleans, Boyd said.

On July 6, according to Boyd, Gray was found by deputies shot to death inside his truck in the 5900 block of the West Bank Expressway.

During the investigation, Shelby was identified by investigators as the man responsible for the shooting, Boyd said. He was located by authorities Monday around 2 p.m. in Harvey.

Shelby told a JPSO detective he killed Gray, Boyd said, adding, 'According to Shelby, he had a fight with the victim a few weeks prior at a local bar. Shelby claimed Gray hit him in the head with a handgun.'

Shelby said he saw Gray at a West Bank bar and waited for him to leave, Boyd said. When Gray left the bar, Shelby said he approached Gray and shot him multiple times inside the truck. He later tossed the gun off the Crescent City Connection.
