COVINGTON, La. A Covington apartment fire resulted in heavy fire and water damage for one apartment and some smoke and water damage for the two adjacent apartments, according to the Covington Fire Department.

At 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters received the report of the blaze at Park View Apartments at 700 Park View Drive.

Units arrived at the scene at 5:33 a.m. to find heavy smoke coming from one apartment in a building that contained six units, CFD said.

The occupants of the apartments were evacuated by Covington police officers, and no one was injured.

Firefighters discovered heavy fire in a second story bedroom and began an interior attack that successfully extinguished the fire, officials said.

The fire was under control at 6:04 a.m.

The fire department responded with two engines, a ladder truck, a rescue truck and 16 firefighters. They were assisted by an engine, a tanker and three personnel from St. Tammany Fire District 13.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
