SLIDELL, La. - A Slidell detective suffered severe injuries during a raid where police found drugs, weapons and two children at home in the raided apartments.
The raid happened Wednesday, Oct. 2 in the evening.
According to spokesman Daniel Seuzeneau, the raid was conducted to execute a high-risk search warrant on an apartment following a series of complaints about alleged narcotics activity at 2001 Seventh St.
Seuzeneau said that when breaching the front door of apartment five at the location, the primary suspect, 30-year-old Steven Twillie, fled out the back and ran into the next door apartment.
Detectives, who were observing the back of the apartment, chased Twillie into apartment six and a violent fight occurred that badly injured a deputy who had to have surgery and who faces several months of recovery and rehab.
Seuzeneau said detectives found heroin, cocaine and marijuana in the apartments along with five guns. An 11-year-old and a 3-year-old were also inside.
In addition to Twillie, two others were arrested.
Twillie was booked with battery on a police officer, resisting an officer, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon in the presence of narcotics and possession with intent to distribute a schedule I and schedule II narcotic.
Ryan Taylor, 24, was booked on drug charges and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
David Smith, 26, was booked on drug charges, resisting arrest and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.
A woman in the apartment was not arrested due to medical issues, but Seuzeneau said a warrant would be issued at a later date.
