NEW ORLEANS -- The New Orleans Fire Department is investigating a fire that damaged three homes in Treme Thursday night.

The 3-alarm fire broke out in the 1200 block of North Galvez, prompting at least 10 fire trucks to show up to the neighborhood.

Firefighters were quickly able to contain the flames.

Video from Eyewitness News viewer David Munroe shows the raging fire that erupted around 7:50 p.m. Fire officials say it started inside a vacant home.

Fire officials say the flames damaged three vacant homes on the block, including one that was being renovated.

Neighbors tell eyewitness news the house where the fire started is scheduled for demolition and that homeless people have been seen in and around the property.

'The initial fire building sustained a great deal of damage and it has collapsed on itself, which is kind of hindering us in our ability to do a complete investigation and a search of the facility. We will leave units here and complete that search and see if we can come up with a cause and origin,' said NOFD Superintendent Tim McConnell.

Galvez between Ursuline and Esplanade was closed to traffic.
