DESALLEMANDS, La. -- A Lafourche Parish woman is in the parish jail after confessing to detectives that she burned her neighbors' home to the ground.

According to Sheriff Craig Webre, Jessica Bryan, 27, was arrested and charged with simple arson of an inhabited dwelling.

Monday around 2:30 a.m., firefighters were called to a residential trailer fire in the 3900 block of U.S. Highway 90 East. 'Volunteer firefighters from several local departments worked to extinguish the blaze, but the damage from the fire resulted in a total loss of the residence. In speaking to subjects at the scene, deputies suspected the fire may have been started intentionally,' Webre said.

Investigators determined that the fire had been started in the rear of the trailer, Webre said, and detectives learned that some residents of the trailer that had burned had been in a fight with their neighbors earlier that evening at a separate location. One of the neighbors was Bryan.

Bryan, according to the sheriff's office, came home after the altercation, before the victims had gotten home. She went to the victims' residence and found a gas can, pouring fuel under the trailer and then igniting it with a lighter.

When detectives questioned Bryan about the fire, she admitted to the crime and said she acted alone. She is currently being held in lieu of $100,000 bond as set by Judge Walter I. Lanier III.
