NEW ORLEANS Fan favorite Darren Sproles will be cut by the New Orleans Saints, according to a tweet by the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, citing a source.
Pro Football Talk reports that Sproles will be cut if he can't be traded.
Darren Sproles tweeted what appeared to be a farewell shortly after. 'Thank you New Orleans for your support over the past 3 years! I will always be forever grateful.'
Sproles would be the second popular offensive weapon let go by the team Friday.
In response to the cuts of Lance Moore and Sproles, tight end JimmyGraham later tweeted, 'Wow unbelievable. Shocked and disappointed on everything that's gone on this offseason.'
Sproles was signed by the Saints in 2011 after the team parted ways with Reggie Bush. Sproles had a monster season with 603 yards rushing, 710 receiving and 9 touchdowns. He was named NFL All-Pro.
Sproles' numbers were down in 2013 as he had 220 yards rushing and 604 receiving. Sproles' move, like that the one that shed Lance Moore, helped the team save money against the salary cap.
