NEWORLEANS- The attorney who has represented former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin during his trial and appeal process has asked to be allowed to withdraw as counsel, according to court documents.

Robert Jenkins filed a motion to withdraw as counsel of record to the U.S. District Court. In the motion it states that 'the defendant in this matter is indigent and is not able to pay the cost associated with the appellate process.'

The motion further requests that a member of the Federal Public Defender's office represent Nagin in his appeal to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal.
