TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La.- State police are investigating a deputy-related shooting in Tangipahoa Parish early Saturday morning which left Cjavar Galmon, 18, dead.According to Trooper Nick Manale, a Louisiana State Police spokesman, the incidenthappened about 2 a.m. at Club 81, a nightclub on Highway 51 in Tangipahoa.
The deputy was on duty at the time and responded to a report of a fight at the club, Manale said. Earlier reports said that the deputy was off-duty and working a detail, but that has since changed.
It is unclear what led up to the shooting which left Galmon fatally wounded.
Family members told Eyewitness News that Galmon, who lived in nearby Fluker, was at the club with a friend who got into some sort of altercation. The deputy responded to the scene and when Galmon tried to intervene or somehow came in contact with the deputy, he was shot, relatives said.
Manale says State Police were called in to conduct an investigation, which is common in some police-involved shootings.
The deputy involved has not yet been identified. Tangipahoa Parish sheriff's spokeswoman Dawn Panepinto would provide few other details, including the deputy's status on the force, citing the ongoing investigation.
