NEW ORLEANS An assistant district attorney in the audience of the courtroom passed out as District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro delivered graphic opening remarks in the trial of a man accused of slashing a woman's throat inside Pal's Lounge in 2007.

Cannizzaro was in the midst of telling the jury how Nia Robertson was brutally murdered inside the Bayou St. John bar when the assistant district attorney passed out in the courtroom and fell to the floor.

The judge immediately had the jury removed from the courtroom.

An ambulance was called to give assistance to the assistant district attorney who was removed from the courtroom on a stretcher, causing an hourlong delay to the trial.

He was alert and talking as he left the courthouse on the stretcher with EMTs

Erik Tracyk is facing a first-degree murder charge for Robertson's murder.

Tracyk allegedly slashed Roberton's throat as she was sitting next him in the bar on an August night in 2007. He was arrested at his apartment near the bar with a knife. Cannizzaro is leading the prosecution against the defendant.

Tracyk has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
