HAMMOND, La. - A 26-year-old man has been charged after deputies say he stabbed a woman with a screwdriver following an argument early Friday morning.

The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Wardine Road, according to Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards.

Deundray Kendell Evans was booked into the parish jail awaiting bond.

Edwards said deputies were called to the scene of a physical altercation and they learned that an argument led to Evans arming himself with a screwdriver and stabbing the unidentified woman.

The victim was able to get away and fled to a nearby home.

Deputies said they tried to find Evans at his residence but got no answer. The deputies then contacted the homeowner who let them in and Edwards said that Evans was found lying on the floor, trying to hide under a blanket. He was charged with aggravated second-degree battery.

The condition of the victim was not given in the news release.
