NEW ORLEANS -- Evidence indicates that the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office re-entry program for inmates can significantly reduce the number of offenders who return to prison.

According to data from the state of 926 state offenders who did not take part and were released in 2010 and 2011, 25.6 percent returned to prison.

Meanwhile, of 140 inmates who completed all program requirements, only 13.6 percent returned to prison.

The re-entry program gives inmates lessons on decision making, job interview skills, anger management, substance abuse education and computer skills.
