NEWORLEANS - The mother of the five-year-old girl who accidentally shot and killed herself is set appear at a bond hearing on Wednesday morning.

Laderika Smith's bond was set at $75,000 on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old mother was initially booked with cruelty to a juvenile after being arrested on Sunday. But police later booked her on second degree murder.

The child was home alone in the 2200 block of North Galvez when her mother went to the store, investigators said. Smith said she returned home to find her daughter lying on the bedroom floor shot in the head.

The young girl was taken to the hospital, where she passed away after being taken off of life support.

Court records showed that Smith told police she would leave the child home alone unsupervised if she was close by, even though she knew there was a gun in the house.

Smith has already been arrested three other times for crimes including theft and prostitution, according to court records.

A stuffed animal memorial in the child's honor sits outside Smith's residence.

Smith's bond hearing was set for 10 a.m. at the Magistrate Court.
