ST. BERNARD, La. -- Authorities investigating the homicide of a New Orleans man who was driven to Chalmette at night and shot dead have arrested a second man in connection with the case.

Joseph Guillory of New Orleans rode to Chalmette with murder-suspect James 'Fatt'Madison of New Orleans when the victim was taken out and shot by Madison, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann said.

Polhmann said the body of of 33-year-old Herman 'Peanut'' Jones Jr. of New Orleans was found the next morning on a street in an industrial area north of Paris Road around the Orleans parish line.

Detectives said an investigation led to Madison's arrest in April and now to Guillory.

Detectives found video surveillance from French Quarter businesses from the March 16 killing that identified the vehicle used to bring Jones to the murder scene, authorities said.

That vehicle was recovered in Kenner in late March, brought to St. Bernard and was processed for forensic evidence that was given to the State Police crime lab, Pohlman said.

Their investigation took detectives to Memphis, Tenn. where authorities interviewed the 31-year-old Madison about the murder. Madison acknowledged knowing the victim and being with him in New Orleans the night of March 16, less than an hour before Jones was murdered, detectives said.

Madison was arrested for second-degree murder in the killing of Jones in mid-April after an investigation and is held on a $1 million bond in St. Bernard Parish Prison. A grand jury recently indicted him on a first-degree murder charge.

An associate of Madison, the 34-year-old Guillory was placed in the parish Prison a $250,000 bond.

'We have identified a motive for the killing of Mr. Jones but aren't going to reveal it at this time,'' Sheriff Pohlmann said. The investigation is ongoing, he said.
