NEWORLEANS - As the nation continued to mourn the loss of David 'Kidd' Kraddick, the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Officer said that the cause of his sudden death was cardiac related pending a toxicology report.
Kraddick had an enlarged heart, which indicated high blood pressure, and three diseased vessels, according to Dr. Granville Morse. One of his arteries had an 80 percent blockage. The toxicology report is expected within seven days.
The well known radio host died in Gretna while hosting his beloved charity golf tournament for kids. Ochsner West Bank called the coroner's office to report the death around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Kraddick touched thousands of lives each day with his radio show.
Locally his nationally-syndicated show aired on B97. On Monday morning, the best of the Kidd Kraddick show hit the airwaves.
The radio host was in the NewOrleans area for an annual fundraiser for his foundation, Kidd's Kids. A tournament was held at Timberlane Golf Course.
The organization raised thousands of dollars for children with chronic and terminal illnesses.
Kraddick was scheduled to take the first swing at the charity golf tournament, organizers said. He went to the driving range to practice, and the next they knew, he was taken to the hospital.
He was 53-years-old and died at Ochsner's West Bank campus.
Kraddick's colleagues at his Texas network said they were heartbroken over the loss of their friend.
'All of us with YEA Networks and the Kidd Kraddick in the Morning crew are heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend and leader. Kidd devoted his life to making people smile every morning, and for 21 years, his foundation has been dedicated to bringing joy to thousands of chronically and terminally ill children,' a statement from his colleagues said.
Tournament organizers said they planned to hold an event in his honor in 2014.
